Chris Brown may not be the most popular guy right now, but friend Tyrese Gibson says everyone needs to take a step back and give him and Rihanna breathing room while they sort through a trying time. “Although he appears to be really strong through all of this, it’s really taking a toll on his spirit,” Gibson said at Sunday’s 2009 Ball Up Street Ball Tour. “People like me and Puff, we’re just trying to show him love and keep his spirits up while he’s going through all of the heat, and there are a lot people doing the same for Rihanna.”

In February, Brown, 19, allegedly assaulted the Barbadian singer and his name has since appeared in countless negative articles and discussions of domestic abuse. Rihanna, too, has faced fallout, including criticism for taking Brown back. (According to one source, they have since decided to take a break.) “It’s really hard for him to focus right now on his music, even though he really wants to,” said Gibson. “At the end of the day, I’m not trying to justify it because wrong is wrong, but unfortunately, us as entertainers, we have to grow up on stage with a lot of people looking at us. And a lot of people forget that he’s 19, she’s only 21.”

Rihanna is said to be ‘taking a break’ from Chris Brown but she’s determined to help him become a ‘better person’. Chris, 19, has been charged with punching her in the face and biting her ear and finger. Her mum Monica and friends are begging her to dump him for good, but Rihanna, 21, won’t listen. ‘Rihanna’s priority is to rehabilitate Chris’s terrible public image and she’ll stop at nothing,’ an insider tells Now. ‘She’s convinced that he’s now learnt his lesson and with her support and commitment will become a changed man. ‘She went with him to see a trusted pastor recommended by his mum Joyce. At some point over the next two weeks she’ll also be going with Chris to see a therapist who specialises in anger management and couples therapy.

‘Rihanna’s also told Chris that if he agrees to do a TV interview with someone like the respected US journalist Barbara Walters then she’ll definitely play the supportive girlfriend, sitting by his side and showing the world that she forgives him. This will kill her mum,’ adds our source. In the meantime, Chris, who has a tattoo of Jesus on his arm, is happy just speaking to the pastor. Sources say that he’s made Chris feel he isn’t a bad person, but just someone who’s lost his way. ‘Chris is surrounding himself with people who are reinforcing what a good person he is and telling him what he wants to hear,’ reveals our source. ‘There’s no one in his camp telling him any home truths. Everyone in his circle knows that it’s in his best interests career-wise to stay with Rihanna. ‘The pastor told them about the power of forgiveness and Rihanna has really latched on to that. Monica is also God-fearing, but she just can’t bring herself to forgive Chris.’ Rihanna has reportedly gone a step further by recording a duet with Chris. RIHANNA’S discovery that Chris Brown cheated on her with a model is reported to be the reason for their massive row which turned into an assault charge.
The 19-year-old singer – who has been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats following his alleged assault of Rihanna last month – was having a relationship with 27-year-old
brunette beauty Natasha Ellie. It has been claimed Ellie sent the three-page text message – initially reported to be from someone who Chris “had a previous sexual relationship with” – which sparked Brown and Rihanna’s argument, during which he allegedly punched, bit and choked the singer until she was unconscious. A source said: “Rihanna has been having problems with this girl for a long time. Rihanna even reached out to Natasha, but she denied everything. Have you heard the song Emergency Room by Rihanna? In the lyrics she mentions finding Natasha’s number in Chris’s jeans. Rihanna didn’t write the song, but she met with the songwriter and told her how she felt and what she was going though and they came up with it.”

Emergency Room includes the lyrics: “I was pickin’ up your clothes in the closet/ I was bout’ to throw your jeans in the washer/ ‘Til I saw a piece of paper sayin’ “Tasha”/ I gotta say I found this a bit shockin’/ And some reciepts here that say you went shoppin’/ You bought some Nike shoes/ But why you buyin stockings?/ Boy how could you lie to me?/ I thought you would die for me/ I’m not accepting another apology.” Ellielives in Los Angeles and has worked as a runway model and also starred in several R’n'B videos, for artists including R. Kelly and Akon. Ellie’s representative has denied the model had a relationship with Brown, but confirmed the pair met in Miami two years ago.

Rumor has it Rihanna and Chris Brown have a sex tape that Rihanna is hoping (and praying) isn’t leaked. As previously reported, the couple is spending time a part from eachother. This past week Brown was spotted in Los Angeles recording music then most recently headed to Virginia to be with family and friends. People magazine published a report Friday (March 13) denying that Rihanna and Chris Brown recorded a duet together last month. Just Thursday, CNN reported that producer Polow Da Don had overseen the pair’s recording sessions after Brown was charged with two felonies in the alleged altercation. “The reports are inaccurate,” Polow’s publicist, Laura Wright, told UsMagazine.com on Friday, calling the CNN report misinformed. “The duet was recorded long before the incident.”
“Contrary to published reports, Chris Brown and Rihanna did not record a duet after the incident,” echoed the People report, quoting a “label source” with knowledge of the recording. The confusion seems to be the result of a demo recorded by Brown and Rihanna in 2008, which Polow Da Don spoke with MTV News about after it leaked onto the Internet in January. According to the People source, their “reference vocals” were meant to instruct the eventual singers on how to do the song. The track, titled “Bad Girl,” was intended to be on the soundtrack for the recent film “Confessions of a Shopaholic” and was eventually recorded by the Pussycat Dolls.
“Nothing has been recorded by Chris and Rihanna together since February,” insisted the People source.
Although various outlets have feverishly reported on Brown/Rihanna reconciliations and breakups daily, only this much is clear: The L.A. district attorney filed two felony counts against Brown last week, following a February 8 incident in which police said he assaulted Rihanna. Brown is expected to be back in court on April 6 for his formal arraignment and faces nearly five years in prison if convicted.

Chris Brown is officially letting Nickelodeon off the hook, and taking himself off the list of nominees at the upcoming Kids’ Choice Awards. In a statement, his rep says: “Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated. While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time. Once the matter before him has been resolved, he intends to do so.”

With R&B singer Chris Brown’s career on the brink and his good name shredded by charges he thrashed his glamorous girlfriend Rihanna, one of Manhattan’s top reputation rehabilitators recommended that Brown do what he does best.

“Come up with a soulful song about what happened,” said Davia Temin, CEO of Temin and Co. “I would use my fame to say, ‘Look we are all human and make terrible mistakes.’” The idea, said Temin, “is to embrace the thing that hurt you the most and turn it into something positive.” If Brown “were a company,” said Temin, “I would say, ‘Start a foundation on nonviolent resolution to family squabbles.’”

But Brown, who is just 19, sings for a living, and he needs to understand that “coming back is possible,” she said. “You can come back from pretty much anything,” said Temin. “Our country loves people who come back from the brink.” That said, Brown has to do “some serious repair work,” especially since prosecutors released a damning document based on what Rihanna told them about the beating she suffered on a drive home from a party on Feb.8. “The first thing he has to do is apologize again, sincerely,” Temin said. “He needs to say, ‘Look, I am so sorry any of this happened, that’s not who I want to be. I take my role as a role model very seriously.’”

Then, said Temin, “You start to put in fixes.” While Brown has yet to plead to the criminal charges, in the court of public opinion, he’s already guilty, she said. “The reputation is already tarnished, and perception becomes reality,” said Temin. The success of Brown’s public rehabilitation also depends a lot on what Rihanna, 21, does, said Marilyn Puder-York, a psychologist who works with another group with shaky reps – Wall Street workers. “The fact that she is standing by his side is significant,” she said. “That she went back to him takes him off the hook a little.” Puder-York quickly added, “It does not excuse what happened.”

“But for the public, it raises the question, ‘Who am I to condemn him if the person he is accused of victimizing is not condemning him?’” she said. Still, even having Rihanna onboard is not enough to erase what happened from public memory. So Puder-York recommends that Brown stick to singing – and leave the public hell-raising to other celebrities. “People are very forgiving, but he needs to exhibit almost perfect behavior going forward,” she said. “For the next few years, he has to be off the radar, behaviorally.” Last month, Brown hired a public relations firm and issued a public apology after word of his fight with Rihanna got out. He also said he was committed to becoming “a better person.” Brown has not made any public statement since his court appearance on assault charges Thursday. His handlers have denied a Chicago Sun-Times report that they have launched a career-saving campaign dubbed “Project Mea Culpa.”
